Department of Public Administration

Department Profile

Public Administration is the heartbeat of governance, shaping how societies organize, grow, and sustain themselves. As per great scholarPaul H. Appleby, "Public administration is important because it is directly concerned with the execution of public policies." It is both a science and a servic - analysing institutions, policies, and structures while ensuring that citizens’ needs are met with fairness and efficiency.Beyond managing systems, Public Administration uncovers values, community bonds, and institutional frameworks, measuring progress and identifying challenges along the way. More than a discipline, it acts as a mirror that reflects the state of society and a compass that directs us toward inclusive growth, responsive governance, and democratic well-being. At its core, Public Administration is a continuous quest-to refine systems, empower citizens, and strengthen the foundations of human welfare.

The University of Kota established its Department of Public Administration in the 2025–2026 academic session, evolving from the former Department of Social Sciences. Today, the department proudly offers two Master's program - M.A. in Public Administration and Master of Social Work-long with a Ph.D. program in Public Administration, providing a strong platform for advanced study and research. This academic journey is enriched by a team of qualified faculty members from the University and affiliated colleges, whose expertise and dedication ensure high standards of teaching and scholarship. With their support, the department is steadily emerging as a centre of excellence, preparing students to face the challenges of governance and contribute meaningfully to the progress of society.
