Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry

Department Profile

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry was established in the Year 2007. The Department has earned a good reputation of being an important centre of imparting the quality education in teaching and research. The Department is well recognized by national and international research agencies as upcoming advanced research centre. Several research projects funded by various funding agencies like UGC, DST, CSIR, Ministry of Environment & Forests, etc. are undergoing in the Department. The Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry is the first DST-FIST funded Department of the University. The Department is also having an international project in its credit. Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Sweden funded research project is completed by the Department. The Department is also looking for student exchange programmes with various foreign universities. The Department is actively involved in the research activities and publishing the research outputs / papers in the national and international journals of high repute such as Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, Tetrahedron Letters, Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, Synthetic Communications, Chemical Communications, Journal of Material Chemistry, Environmental Science and Technology, Fuel, etc. and many more.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT:

  • To make the Department as a hub for the advance centre in the field of research and modern analytical techniques.
  • To provide 'hands-on-experience' on the instruments including FT-IR, FT-IR with ATR, UV-VIS, UV-VIS with DRS, GC, AAS, Cyclic Voltameter, Refractometer, Spectrophotometer, Spectrofluorimeter, Flame Photometer, Rotatory Evaporator, Microwave Heating Furnace, etc. and recent synthetic technologies including Microwave Synthesis System, Vapour Phase Reactor, etc. which are required essentially in various types of industries.
  • To generate 100% employment opportunities at national and international levels.
  • To produce postgraduates of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry with in-depth knowledge of basics and advances in the subject.
  • To produce trained knowledgeable industrial persons to get employment in various public/private sectors.
  • To produce large number of JRF, SRF, GATE scholars with research oriented mind.
  • To generate self-confidence in the students to adopt many unexplored research professions rather than going to limited trendy fields.
