Department of Social Sciences
Social sciences are very much present into our day to day life and has a pivotal role in the societal growth and development. If we dig out the historical evidences, we will find that social sciences have been constant part of the development of the human race. Great philosophers like Plato and Aristotle were advocates of social sciences and their philosophies are based on the objectives of social sciences only. Social sciences reveal subjective, objective, inter-subjective and structural aspects of the society. It also measures the social development of the society and emerging drawbacks too. With a thought to watch where our society has been heading what more can be done for the benefit the human race, University of Kota started Department of Social Sciences in the session 2007-2008. Under the umbrella of the department different courses in various allied disciplines are being run. Faculties from various universities and affiliated colleges are extending their valuable support for successfully running of the courses.

Sociology and Social Works
The courses namely M.A. (Sociology), M.Phil. (Sociology) and master of Social Works (MSW) are being run in the Department of Social Sciences. Looking to the demand of the market, M.A. and M.Phil. (Sociology) with certain specialized streams viz. industrial sociology, media and communication, culture, health and nutrition and environment and society are being run.

In view of the significance and relevance of the Social work at global level, two years MSW course is being run since 2008 by the department. The students pursuing this course are supposed to have live interaction with certain reputed organizations involved in various activities pertaining to social welfare, eradication of social evils, rehabilitation, environmental procurement, etc. The pass outs of the first batch of this course have been placed in UNICEF, NRHM, MNEGRA, Patanjali Yoga Mission, reputed NGOs and industries, etc.

Geography is one of the most popular and important disciplines in contemporary times in the gamut of earth sciences. The subject focuses the knowledge of earth & its environment with sustainable development. It is an important link between natural and social sciences. The Department has started M.A./M.Sc. and M.Phil, courses in Geography. Looking to the importance of spatial data and Geographical information

System one year diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS is also being run in the department. Dr. M.Z.A. Khan is coordinating the M.Phil, programme and Dr. J.P.Sharma is the coordinator of M.A./M.Sc. & Diploma course.

To meet out the demand of the students, the Department is offering M.Phil, course in History. Dr. H.C. Jain is looking after this course as co-ordinator. The subject focuses the knowledge of historiography and primary sources of Rajasthan history, culture and traditions. For this purpose we have well qualified and experienced staff. M.Phil, in History has been successfully running since 2007-08.

Heritage, Museology & Tourism Management
M.A. - Heritage, Museology & Tourism management is an innovative teaching course in history in the dimension of conservation and proliferation of Art, Culture and Indian Heritage. The course shall be garrisoned with innovative technologies instead of old mythology. The main attraction of the course would be that students shall not only get the theoretical knowledge of Art, Culture and Museum Science, but they would get also an cherished opportunity to practically keep into the Art, Culture and different Heritage sites. The course is very significant and historic for the purpose of tourism and museology. Dr. Sushma Ahuja is the coordinator of the programme.
This is a career oriented, career enhancer and employment oriented course. The students, after completion of this course, can avail job opportunity in the field of Department of Tourism (Rajasthan, India and Private sector), Archaeology Department, Archaeological survey of India, National museum, Archive, Department of museum and cartography etc.

Students can also join international institutions like GETTY, CCI, ICCROM and IIC etc. for further educational studies and in depth knowledge of the Art and Heritage.

Political Science
The Department has introduced M.Phil, course in Political science in the session 2010. Dr. Phool Singh Gurjar is the coordinator of the programme. The subject is of utmost importance in the present era. It is a debate on all fronts of the world that what sort of political system would best enable the highest human life of eudemonia (happiness). This subject being the motivating force behind almost all sort of politics has gained much popularity among younger generation. This course may find many careers as an extensive training in the subject will be given to the aspirants. Some of the important job fields may be national, state and local government, urban planning, foreign affairs, journalism, legal profession, public advocacy, public relations, international organizations Foreign policies and all sort of competitive examinations.
